Trust
How we handle the facts.
Water information is easy to distort in both directions, panic and dismissal. This policy is how we avoid both.
Sources
We rely on primary and reputable sources: the U.S. EPA, USGS, state environmental and health agencies, NSF International standards, and each utility's own published reports. Every guide lists its sources and shows a publication and review date.
Limits, goals, and detections are different things
A Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) is an enforceable regulatory limit. A Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) is a non-enforceable health-based target. A detection is a measured level. We never present one as another, and we state uncertainty when the science is unsettled.
Public data vs. your tap
System-level reports describe treated water in distribution. Conditions in a specific home, especially lead from household plumbing, require testing at that home. Our content repeats this distinction wherever it matters.
Commercial relationships
My Home's Water is powered operationally by Summit Reach and connects homeowners with local professionals. That relationship is disclosed here and on our About page. It never buys a guide's conclusion, a rating, or a ranking.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct the page, update its review date, and note material changes. Accuracy outranks looking consistent.
